Freuquent landing of Eagle ray in Palk bay – Endangered
Eagle ray (Aetobatus flagellum) inhabits shallow inshore waters hence chose the Palk as ideal habitat. Prefer to eat Fishes, crustaceans and molluscs in the seagrass beds. They are Ovoviviparous, nearly 3 full term embryos have been obtained from the uterus. Flesh used fresh and dried salted for human consumption and they are highly preferred. Above single species fetch the price of Rs. 13,000 in a local market.
